Clear navigation for multi-modal public transit services  in North San 
Diego County

RSM Design partnered with the North County Transit District (NCTD) in San Diego County to reimagine the agency’s system-wide wayfinding. Beginning with a thorough analysis of existing conditions and rider needs, the team developed a cohesive design strategy that integrates NCTD’s brand into a clear, intuitive, and user-centered navigation system. The work resulted in a comprehensive sign family with detailed technical drawings and specifications for bus, rail, and light-rail signage—ensuring consistency and clarity across every stage of the rider journey.


The redesign also establishes long-term standards that help NCTD streamline implementation and maintain quality as the system evolves. By creating a unified framework for present and future signage, RSM Design’s work improves legibility, enhances accessibility, and strengthens the overall transit experience for the millions of passengers who rely on NCTD each year.

Serving over 10 million passengers each year, connecting Amtrak, Metrolink, and two regional light-rail services, the system needed a unified wayfinding strategy for intuitive movement.
