Arizona Center’s owners approached the project with a clear objective: revitalize a fading retail destination that had become more of a pass-through than a place to stay. They needed a cohesive, memorable design that would signal a new chapter for the property—one that boosts legibility, elevates the visitor experience, and reintroduces the center as an exciting, interactive part of downtown Phoenix. With a shared vision of transforming the site into a distinct, welcoming destination for both locals and visitors, the team set guiding principles focused on celebrating the center’s unique architecture, activating the public realm, and shaping an environment that supports standout dining, retail, and community experiences. RSM Design responded with an approach rooted in bold placemaking, innovative thinking, and a commitment to design bold, distinctive elements that leave a lasting impression. The strategy emphasized extending the brand into the built environment through creative wayfinding, dynamic lighting concepts, and thoughtful day-to-night transitions, including explorations of simple yet engaging technologies like infinity mirrors. Key design features bring a strong visual identity to the site and establish Arizona Center as a renewed urban destination defined by unique architecture and expressive color.
