Digital Integration User ExperienceRSM Design brings a unique perspective to the built environments of the life science industry. We take an interdisciplinary and synergistic approach that crafts and implements a holistic brand experience within life science design.
Life Sciences Laboratories and Campuses Designed to Foster Growth and Community
From identity development to wayfinding programs and placemaking design, we create connection and collaboration between people in individual laboratories and across life science campuses. We seek to enhance the scientific workplace and research spaces so discovery can flourish.
Define: The strategy is defined and vision translated in varied and dynamic creative solutions.
Discover: Our design process first seeks to discover the shared vision and purpose of each project.
Design: We design solutions that align with our desired outcomes and the unique voice of the project.
Develop: These solutions are then further developed through collaboration and synergy.
Debrief: Afterward, our team debriefs about the project to learn from it and further each employee’s growth for the future.
Our Principle Centered Design process allows us to support the innovation of educators, health advocates, corporations, and governments as they create scientific advancements to improve our lives. RSM Design possesses extensive experience across market sectors and project types, such as biotechnology, innovation districts, research and development, large-scale mixed-use campuses, health and wellness, workplace, and retail.

Life Science Master Signage Programs
A master sign plan creates a framework that guides present and future signage implementation across complex life science and research environments. Our team starts with a deep analysis of all uses within the space, from research labs to collaborative areas. We then develop strategic signage solutions at both vehicular and pedestrian levels that help workers and visitors alike navigate with confidence. Through careful consideration of your campus's unique identity, we create comprehensive systems that establish visual harmony while maintaining essential clarity for safety protocols and effective wayfinding.
Research Campus Placemaking Design
Working closely with all key stakeholders, we create spaces that tell the story of scientific discovery through thoughtful placemaking design. Our strategy often incorporates visual representations of research focus areas—molecular structures, data visualizations, biological systems—that highlight distinctive identities for different campus zones. Ultimately, we craft built environments that connect researchers to the greater mission of their work through storytelling, public art, and experiential graphics.
Life Science Wayfinding Design
More than just signage, wayfinding at its best produces integrated experiences. At RSM Design, we identify intuitive pathways and natural decision points within your scientific built environment. Our wayfinding strategy accounts for researcher workflows, movement of sensitive materials, and secure visitor access protocols. The result is an elegant design solution that enhances daily experiences while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency. Through typography, color, graphics, and art, we shape expressive life science environments that communicate their unique brand identity.
Laboratory Signage and Symbols
Laboratory environments demand specialized signage. We develop laboratory signage systems that incorporate universal symbols to communicate complex information clearly. Our approach considers the practical needs of researchers while meeting specific regulatory requirements of life science facilities. By studying traffic patterns and key decision points, we determine optimal placement for signage that provides essential information at critical moments.
Branded Life Science Environments
We translate scientific values into physical environments that inspire. Our branded environments go beyond logo placement to create immersive experiences that communicate your unique position in the life science field. From lobby spaces showcasing breakthrough research to collaboration areas expressing your innovative spirit, we bring your brand to life so you can encourage innovation, attract top talent and research partnerships, and form meaningful connections with the community.
Laboratory and Research Facility Experiential Design
Life science campuses offer opportunities to create meaningful connections between people and scientific discovery. Through experiential graphic design, we craft moments that make abstract concepts tangible. Interactive elements can transform complex ideas into memorable experiences, supporting your outreach goals. Meanwhile, digital integration allows for dynamic content that keeps your campus feeling current and engaged with cutting-edge developments in your field.
Life Science Campus & Laboratory Signage
Life Science Monument Signage
Our monument signage for life science campuses serves as the primary visual anchor of the space. We design signs that balance scientific authority with forward-thinking aesthetics through careful material selection and typographic treatment. For these environments, we incorporate materials that communicate permanence and credibility, as well as brand elements that establish an immediate connection to your organization's scientific mission.
Exterior Signage for Vehicles & Pedestrians
We develop comprehensive exterior signage systems to guide both vehicles and pedestrians through complex campus layouts, addressing the unique circulation patterns found among research facilities. For vehicles, we prioritize legibility at driving speeds and give particular attention to delivery routes for sensitive materials. Pedestrian elements function at a much more intimate scale, creating comfortable pathways between research buildings while maintaining the sophisticated visual language appropriate for advanced scientific environments.
Research Campus Building Signage
Building identification demands clarity, particularly in complex environments like research campuses. We create markers that harmonize with architectural elements while providing unmistakable identification for all users. Our approach weighs factors such as viewing distances, lighting conditions, and material compatibility within laboratory environments to ensure optimal functionality in scientific settings. The typography and scale of these monuments establishes a visual hierarchy that organizes your campus seamlessly and intuitively.
Branded Interiors for Laboratories
Research facilities and laboratories require more than just intuitive direction—they need branded experiences that reinforce organizational identity while providing clear navigation for diverse users. We create branded interiors and signage systems that help users navigate specialized zones with confidence while experiencing the essence of your organization's mission and values at every touchpoint. We transform laboratory interiors into living extensions of your brand through environmental graphic design that includes wall graphics, dimensional features, branded messaging, mission statements, vision displays, timeline installations, art programs, and signage that goes beyond mere function. By collaborating closely with project stakeholders and architects, we deliver branded interiors that make your research facility unforgettable while supporting the serious work of scientific advancement.
We produce thoughtful laboratory signage and life science design solutions that turn ordinary research spaces into extraordinary environments for scientific advancement and innovation.
