Playa Vista sits just south of Los Angeles near Marina del Rey, on a site that once housed Howard Hughes's legendary operations, including the original hangar and runway built for the Spruce Goose. That history runs deep, and the more than 100 acres of parks and open space that now define the community carry its weight. Working alongside three landscape firms, RSM Design developed park naming and identity signage for each of the seven individual parks within Playa Vista, along with signage and wayfinding for The Link, the thoroughfare connecting the community throughout.
Each park received its own distinct identity, deliberately named without the word "park" to give every space a sense of place rather than a category. The result is a system that feels cohesive across the community while remaining genuinely individual at each destination, signage that shapes how residents move through and relate to a landscape built on one of Southern California's most storied sites.
