When Children’s Hospital Los Angeles set out to improve its wayfinding system, they envisioned a space where every visitor—patients, families, and staff—could navigate with ease and confidence. RSM Design stepped in to bring that vision to life, transforming a once-confusing and inconsistent system into an intuitive journey through the hospital. Inspired by the diversity and spirit of Los Angeles, the team wove a story into the design, using animals to represent different communities and emotions. Each one became a symbol of courage, self-expression, and renewal. At the heart of the project, the elevator cores became wayfinding landmarks, each marked by a unique animal, creating a seamless and memorable navigation experience. Through meticulous planning, on-site validation, and creative problem-solving, RSM Design crafted a system that not only guided people through the hospital but also instilled a sense of connection and comfort. In the end, the project was more than just signs; it was a story of transformation, where every element worked together to remind visitors that in this space, everything is connected.
