RSM Design works closely with cities, communities, and developers to connect people with outdoor spaces through creative park signage and wayfinding systems.
Park & Garden Wayfinding Signage Design
Working with architects, landscape architects, and planners, we implement signage systems that guide visitors through parks, botanical gardens, and urban environments with ease, confidence, and delight. In these spaces, the most dynamic design solutions reveal themselves to our experts after they gain a thorough understanding of the local environment and surrounding cultural context.
Park signage design presents a unique set of opportunities. With the high volume of people and activities, it is important that the signage systems are legible and clear, while still feeling connected to the community and surrounding area.
For visitors, step-by-step guides to historic sites, photo opportunities, or planned events become a part of park wayfinding and signage design. Local stories that add character and relevance are integrated to give the park a unique sense of place and create an engaging visitor experience. A curated and layered environmental graphic design approach to park design brings out a distinct sense of meaning and purpose, both to the park and the overall community.
This holistic approach to branding, placemaking, environmental graphic design, public art, wayfinding, and signage for parks connects people to the park on a physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional level. Graphics and signage guide users on their physical navigation through the park, while plaques, identification signage, educational signage, and other forms of storytelling engage visitors mentally. When people have places to gather and connect with others in a park, they can experience tranquility, rest, safety, and other emotions. By providing meaning, purpose, and a unique sense of place, visitors can participate with the built environment on a higher, more spiritual level.

Park Wayfinding Signage
Park wayfinding signage is more than just signs. It is a tool for discovery and connection. At RSM Design, we craft intuitive wayfinding systems that seamlessly blend with the park and botanical garden environments, guiding visitors with clarity and ease. Our signage considers both the visual aesthetics and functional needs of each unique space, ensuring visitors feel comfortable and confident as they navigate. Our park signage is designed to allow visitors to fully engage with the natural beauty, recreation, and education the park has to offer. By encouraging people to explore and share their experiences, they can develop a more meaningful connection with the built environment.
Park Master Signage Programs
Our master signage programs serve as a dynamic blueprint for the ongoing evolution of parks, gardens, and outdoor spaces. By analyzing every use within the environment, from pedestrian flow to gathering spaces, we create a cohesive system that shapes both immediate experiences and future growth. With every sign and marker designed to fit harmoniously into the broader park narrative, we ensure that all stakeholders—from visitors to administrators—benefit from a well-organized, inspiring environment that speaks to community identity and heritage.
Branded Environments for Parks & Botanical Gardens
With the right planning and expertise, parks and botanical gardens can be more than just green spaces. They can be branded experiences that connect people to their surroundings and the local community. RSM Design’s branding services uncover the distinctive voice of each park or garden, which is expressed in every decision from the logo to the color palette and environmental theming that celebrates local culture. By integrating brand identity into gateway signage, activity hubs, and every visitor touchpoint in between, we transform the space into a cohesive experience. This leaves visitors with a memorable sense of place and belonging that they are excited to share with others.
Placemaking for Parks & Outdoor Spaces
Placemaking transforms ordinary outdoor environments into extraordinary spaces where people feel a sense of belonging and connection. RSM Design brings together local stories, public art, landscape features, and interactive elements to craft built environments that resonate deeply with both local residents and visitors. Our holistic approach engages the community to reflect their unique values and culture, making each park a memorable destination that fosters social interaction, recreation, and a lasting connection with nature.
Public Art & Murals for Parks
Public art and murals bring color, creativity, and surprise to park environments, turning them into canvases for community stories. RSM Design regularly partners with local artists to curate impactful installations—from bold murals to interactive sculptures—that create moments of wonder and delight for park-goers. These art pieces serve as landmarks, photo opportunities, and sources of community pride, adding a layer of emotional engagement that transforms a simple visit into a cherished memory.
Park & Garden Environmental Graphic Design
Environmental graphic design (EGD) is the art of creating a built environment that speaks to its users through layered visual cues, such as typography, color, and compelling graphics. For our park and garden projects, we use EGD to enhance visitor experience, ensure smooth navigation, and tell the unique stories of each space. Whether it is informational signs explaining local flora and fauna or eye-catching wayfinding graphics, our environmental graphic design helps visitors engage more deeply with the built environment, creating experiences that are as informative as they are enjoyable.
Types of Park Signage
Park Entry Signs
Entry signs and stations are the gateway to a park or botanical garden, marking the first impression for every visitor. At RSM Design, our entry signage sets the tone for an inviting, meaningful experience by reflecting the unique identity and character of the park. Designed with both clarity and beauty, these signs combine architectural details and visual branding to convey a sense of arrival and embody the values and aesthetics of the space.
Identification Signage for Parks
Identification signage provides a distinct identity for key areas and amenities throughout the park. Whether it is a playground, historic pavilion, or scenic viewpoint, our identification signs ensure that each site is easily recognized. Crafted with a thoughtful balance of form and function, these signs integrate seamlessly with the park’s environment, enhancing navigation while celebrating the stories and purposes behind important locations.
Regulatory Signage for Parks
Regulatory signage ensures that every visitor’s park experience is safe, accessible, responsible, and enjoyable. RSM Design creates ADA-compliant regulatory signs that are thoughtfully integrated into the park’s overall design to deliver crucial information like park rules, speed limits, and safety guidelines. These signs are crafted with a design-forward approach that maintains the overall aesthetics of the environment while communicating messages clearly and effectively for all audiences, including people with disabilities. They are vital tools in establishing boundaries, ensuring order, and promoting a respectful coexistence between visitors, park staff, and the natural world.
Informational Maps and Kiosks
Informational maps, signs, and kiosks provide essential knowledge that can turn a simple visit into a memorable experience. Our maps and kiosks are designed not only to orient visitors but also to inspire exploration by highlighting trails, historical sites, and scenic areas. With engaging storytelling, intuitive layouts, and clear graphics, these maps and other installations bridge the gap between navigation and discovery, transforming a visitor's understanding of the park and encouraging them to engage more deeply with the environment.
Directional Signs for Parks
A park’s directional signs are made to impart a sense of certainty and comfort. RSM Design’s directional signage ensures that visitors move intuitively through the park, guiding them towards amenities and points of interest without confusion. By blending landscape, lighting, typography, and visual cues, our signage helps visitors make decisions effortlessly at key moments, whether they are navigating trails, looking for bathrooms, or finding picnic areas.
Trail Markers
Trail markers are designed to lead visitors through hike and bike trails, botanical garden paths, and other areas while enhancing their journey along the way. Our trail markers are carefully incorporated into the landscape in order to minimize visual disruption while still displaying maps and information that indicate distances, trail difficulty, specific points of interest, and more. Each marker is an opportunity to subtly reinforce the park’s brand and encourage visitors to venture out with safety and confidence.
RSM Design provides park signage and wayfinding solutions to ensure that these spaces are navigable, engaging, and welcoming, allowing visitors to explore confidently and fully connect with the natural environment.
