RSM Design developed a long-term relationship with the Boy Scouts of America to develop the permanent and temporary branding, placemaking and wayfinding for the Summit and the National Scout Jamboree events. Our involvement in the planning of this site began with the strategies defined in the Source Book in 2008, laying the groundwork for the design principles that would guide future decisions and development.
The team worked on every aspect of The Summit Bechtel Reserve – overall identity and wayfinding throughout the site, camping areas, basecamp activity areas and The Summit Center. The design team has been balancing the natural sense of place that site brings with the contemporary attitudes of the participants and innovative areas that are being created.
The scale of the project both in size of the site as well as the number of stakeholders and consultants involved was a challenge that required great coordination and a clear process. The placemaking components were carefully designed, taking into consideration site grading nuances, infrastructure requirements and environmentally-conscious design principles.
