Heavenly Bodega

On a quiet corner of Banker’s Hill, a century-old church watched its neighborhood grow more polished and urban, yet still hungry for places that felt personal. When the church set out to create a neighborhood hangout and market, they sought a brand that balanced sophistication with an easy, welcoming spirit. The challenge was to weave the church’s history into a fresh, food-forward narrative that felt neither nostalgic nor heavy, combining the warmth of a European side street café with the relaxed rhythm of Downtown San Diego. Our team approached the project like uncovering a story hidden in the walls, remixing the site’s historic character into a modern identity using goldleaf-inspired details, classic café cues, and updated typographic references. These elements came to life through the logotype, window graphics, and façade signage, creating touches that felt instantly familiar. The result is a bridge between old and new—a church neighbor reimagined as the community’s next gathering place, bringing the spirit of a classic European café to Banker’s Hill.

BRAND ORIGIN

A modern interpretation of the property’s divinely inspired past, the Heavenly Bodega mark takes cues from the gothic arches and humanist typography of historic scripts and church architecture, transitioning them into a contemporary mashup of artisanal cafe culture, playfully cultivated craft, and the classic refinement of the Banker’s Hill community.
